Yakima County, WA. – 43-year-old Alma Torres Silverton and Terry Cook , 43, both from Oregon, were severely hurt in a head-on crash on Highway 97 in Toppenish last week Thursday afternoon.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash was reported on State Route 97 near milepost 46 at around 4:53 p.m. August 1.

Reportedly, Silverton was driving a southbound 2018 Ford F-150 on the highway when, for unknown reasons, he veered into the northbound lane. He attempted to pass a car before colliding head-on with a northbound semi-truck trailer.

Silverton and their passenger, Colton, were rushed to Yakima Memorial Hospital with severe injuries for treatment.

The semi driver Oleksand Tsaryk, 32, of Oregon, was not injured.

The police said unsafe passing was the cause of the mishap, and Silverton would be charged with negligent driving.

No additional information about the crash was provided.

An investigation is underway.
