Update: Seven People Hospitalized after Head-On Accident on Highway 28 in Douglas County

Douglas County, WA – The Washington State Patrol has identified the seven victims killed in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Douglas County as Amy Baltazar Torres, 29, of Othello, Carolyn Ferguson, 60, of Spokane, Marco Gomez, 24, of Seattle, Kaci Glismann, 26, of Spokane, Shannon McBride, 59, of Grandville, Idaho, Clyde Ring, 39, of Spokane, and Maria Santos, 71, of Quincy. 

The grisly wreck was reported at around 1:30 p.m. February 9, on State Route 28 near Rock Island Dam Road.

Reportedly, the collision occurred when a westbound 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a 17-year-old East Wenatchee girl attempted to pass a Chevrolet Traverse and collided head-on with a passenger bus. The Camry then struck the Traverse.

The Camry driver and her passenger, a 17-year-old boy from East Wenatchee, the bus driver, 66, of Spokane, and a bus passenger, whose details were not released were killed. The State Patrol said three of them died at the scene while one died at Confluence Health Hospital. Their identities were not released.

Torres, Ferguson, Gomez, Glismann, McBride, Ring, and Santos were all treated and released, according to the hospital.

Three people riding in the Traverse; a 29-year-old Cashmere woman and two young children were uninjured, according to State Patrol.

The bus carried 18 people, including the driver.

The highway was closed until 11:30 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.

Douglas County, WA – Four people were killed, including two teenagers, and seven others hospitalized after a traffic collision in Douglas County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Washington State Police, the wreck happened at around 1:30 p.m. February 9 on the westbound State Route 28.

A preliminary investigation revealed a car going westbound on the highway attempted to pass in the eastbound lane and struck an oncoming bus. The bus ended up in a ditch just off the roadway near Rock Island Dam Road. The car also struck the vehicle it was trying to pass after hitting the bus.

The two 17-year-olds, a boy and a girl, in the vehicle that caused the crash were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The 66-year-old male bus driver along with one of the bus passengers were also declared deceased at the crash site.

Five women and two men who were passengers on the bus were transported to the hospital.

The third vehicle involved in the collision sustained damage, but none of the car's three occupants were injured according to WSP. A Cashmere woman and two children, a 6-year-old and 8-year-old, were in that car.

The wreck impacted the highway for about ten hours.

The identities of the deceased were not immediately disclosed.

The crash remains under investigation.
