Alpine County, CA. – Seven people were injured, at least one of them seriously, in a head-on accident that happened Monday morning in Markleeville, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The wreck occurred around 8:18 a.m. on State Route 89 near State Route 88 just north of Picketts Junction.
A white Chevy and a white Mazda collided head-on under unclear circumstances. One of the vehicles went off the roadway into a nearby riverbank and the other was left blocking the roadway.
Seven people were injured in the crash. At least one of the patients sustained serious injuries.
A Care Flight helicopter was requested to land at Pickets Junction and airlift the seriously injured person to the hospital.
The extent of injuries sustained by the other patients was not mentioned.
Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the collision.
