Authorities Investigating Serious Injury Crash on SR-89 in Truckee

, CA. – At least five people were hospitalized after a head-on accident that happened Saturday afternoon in Truckee, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck was reported to authorities around 3:25 p.m. on southbound about half a mile south of West River Street.

A Toyota 4Runner and a dark-red sedan collided head-on for an unknown reason, blocking the roadway.

The Truckee Police Department and the Truckee Fire Protection District responded to the scene and found three people trapped inside the wreckage.

Southbound SR-89 was blocked to allow the firefighters to extricate the victims.

Two people were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with critical injuries. Three others were taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital with moderate injuries.

Both vehicles were towed away with major front-end damage.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.

Authorities said there was a heavy downpour in the Truckee area that saw firefighters respond to 6 car crashes between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
