Glendale, CA. – The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office identified the 24-year-old man who died in a crash that happened Friday night in Glendale as Jake Huard from Los Angeles.
The collision occurred around 11:41 p.m. on the eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway west of Pacific Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a 2015 silver-colored Mitsubishi that was stalled in traffic lanes and a passing black Mazda.
Huard was the right front passenger in the Mitsubishi when, for an unknown reason, it became stalled in the No. 2 lane of the freeway.
At the same time, the Mazda was also traveling in the eastbound No. 2 lane at speeds above 65 mph in light traffic conditions.
Authorities said, for some reason, Huard had exited the stooped car when the Mazda rear-ended the Mitsubishi, and then the front of the Mazda hit Huard.
Responding emergency personnel pronounced Huard dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 19-year-old Pasadena woman, was hospitalized with major injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The 22-year-old El Monte man driving the Mazda sustained minor injuries.
CHP officers shut down all lanes of the eastbound 134 Freeway until around 7:15 a.m. Saturday during the investigation.
