Nevada City, CA.- Two police officers were injured in a suspected DUI collision in Nevada City early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about 12:30 a.m. September 15, on Highway 49 near the Broad Street off-ramp.
The officers were responding to reports of a bear struck and killed by a vehicle in the area.
As the officers were closing down one of the lanes with flares, a suspected DUI driver traveling at a high rate of speed failed to stop and crashed into the officers.
Both officers were knocked unconscious by the suspect's vehicle.
The officers were taken to hospital and were expected to recover.
The suspect, identified as Geoffrey Rodgers, 28, was booked into the Nevada County jail on DUI charges and his bail set at $75,000.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
