Bakersfield, CA – A two-vehicle collision Friday evening at an intersection in Bakersfield left a 12-year-old girl dead and four others injured, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
The police said the accident happened at around 7:24 p.m. on November 22 at South Union Avenue and Hosking Avenue.
According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of the Chevrolet was driving northbound on South Union Avenue and the driver of the Honda was making a left turn into northbound lanes when they collided.
A woman and three other passengers were inside the Honda. A man was the only person inside the Chevrolet.
All drivers and passengers were hospitalized at a local hospital.
Two juvenile passengers of the Honda, an 11-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl, were found badly hurt following the incident. The 12-year-old girl later died.
Speed was believed to be a factor in the crash.
The BPD determined the driver of the Chevrolet was under the influence of alcohol.
He was arrested for charges relating to DUI, reckless driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter.
No additional details regarding the mishap were provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
