The Honda driver failed to stop at the red light and continued through the intersection and eventually collided with the big rig
Gilroy, CA. – Authorities are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred in Gilroy on Thursday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 1:55 p.m. at Monterey Road and Live Oak Avenue.
Police say 45-year-old Daniel Arendt was driving a semi-truck eastbound in the fast lane approaching the Live Oak Avenue intersection, intending to turn left onto northbound Monterey Road.
Meanwhile, a Honda was traveling southbound on Monterey Road approaching the intersection.
The Honda driver failed to stop at the red light continued through the intersection and eventually collided with the big rig.
The impact caused the Honda to veer into the northbound lanes of Monterey Road where it collided head-on with a northbound Jeep driven by 47-year-old Leonel Orozco, and both vehicles overturned.
The debris from the collision struck a Ford operated by 37-year-old Ricky Reyna.
The 35-year-old male driver of the Honda was killed in the accident.
Orozco was hospitalized with major injuries.
Reyna and Arendt were not injured in the accident.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
