1 Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 33 near Hulen Road in Merced
Merced County, California (June 25, 2023) – At least one person died in a fiery multi-vehicle collision that happened near Los Banos on Saturday afternoon.
The accident was reported around 1:50 p.m. on Highway 33 near Hulen Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A gray two-door Audi was traveling south when it drifted into the path of a black pickup truck traveling north.
The truck driver swerved to avoid a collision but struck an SUV head-on.
The impact of the collision sent the SUV and the pickup truck off the roadway where the SUV caught fire and the pickup truck overturned. A Mustang that was traveling southbound swerved the vehicles and rolled into a ditch.
The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
The 19-year-old pickup truck driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The Mustang driver was unhurt.
The driver of the Audi did not stop at the scene and was yet to be located.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
