The crash happened at around 6:02 p.m. on State Route 132 east of Rushing Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A man was driving an eastbound sedan, when he drove into the westbound lane in an attempt to pass other vehicles, and crashed head-on with a pickup truck.
The sedan driver died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The pickup truck driver had moderate injuries while his passenger had major injuries. Both men were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected in the wreck.
The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.
