The wreck happened on South Orchard Street near South 48th Street, west of the Tacoma Mall at around 1:56 p.m. January 1.
A northbound driver on Orchard Street was speeding when it ended up crashing into another vehicle traveling southbound.
The southbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the northbound motorist was taken to custody for possibly driving under the influence.
The name of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.
