San Diego County Motorcycle Accidents
Over the past few years, San Diego County has consistently ranked among the top counties in California for serious motorcycle crashes. In 2022, the county recorded 50 fatal motorcycle crashes — placing it among the top five counties statewide for motorcycle‑related deaths.
Meanwhile, in 2023, it was reported that 56 motorcyclists died in crashes in San Diego County.
In addition to the fatalities, San Diego also had a high number of serious nonfatal injuries from motorcycle crashes: in 2022 it ranked second in California for serious motorcycle‑related injuries, with 348 serious injury cases, according to Safe Trans Research Centre.
Those numbers reflect a broader pattern: motorcycles — while forming a fraction of total vehicles — continue to be disproportionately involved in severe and fatal collisions. Statewide in California (and by extension in populous counties like San Diego), motorcyclists accounted for 14% of all motor‑vehicle fatalities in 2022.
