Irvine, CA – One person suffered severe injuries in a two-vehicle head-on collision on State Route 133 in Irvine early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Preliminary investigation indicates a white Honda traveling the wrong way on northbound State Route 133 collided head-on with a black Mercedes. The collision blocked the right lane and left one male occupant trapped inside a vehicle. CHP reports indicated the victim’s legs were pinned, and he suffered facial lacerations, although he remained alert and able to communicate with responders.
One person sustained severe injuries in the crash and required emergency medical assistance. Authorities have not released the identity of the injured victim, and no additional injuries were immediately reported.
Investigators believe the collision involved a wrong-way driver. The circumstances that led the white Honda to travel against traffic remain under investigation.
Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and worked to free the trapped occupant from the wreckage. CHP officers also responded and coordinated traffic control while the investigation was underway.
