Irvine, CA – A 95-year-old woman is dead after she ran a red light at an intersection in Irvine, leading to a multi-vehicle collision, the Irvine Police Department reported.
The pileup took place around 9:10 a.m. on May 27 at Irvine Center Drive and Valley Oak Drive.
According to Irvine police, the woman was driving a Toyota RAV4 compact crossover SUV westbound on Irvine Center Drive, approaching Valley Oak Drive. The driver entered the intersection against a red light and collided with a Ram pickup truck driving northbound on a green light.
The impact caused the pickup truck to move toward a Tesla 3 Series sedan, also traveling northbound on a green light, but on the left of the pickup truck. The vehicles collided.
The 95-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
It was unclear if the occupants of the other vehicles were injured.
The crash is under investigation by the IPD Major Accident Investigation Team.
