Hayward, CA – Authorities have identified the pedestrian who was fatally hit by a vehicle in Hayward on Tuesday night.
According to the Hayward Police Department, Jill Lanto, 59, of Hayward, was the victim of the crash that took place in the 23000 block of Mission Boulevard at around 9:21 p.m. on February 17.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 27-year-old woman was driving an Acura SUV northbound on Mission Boulevard when she struck Lanto, who was attempting to walk across the roadway.
Authorities said Lanto, who was in the crosswalk, was walking against the stop signal when she was hit by the vehicle.
The Hayward police and firefighters responded to the scene shortly after and attended to Lanto.
She was then rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
The involved driver reportedly stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. It was reported that alcohol or drugs were not believed to have factored in the crash.
