Phoenix, AZ — Two people were killed and another was critically injured after a fiery two-vehicle collision in south Phoenix early Saturday morning, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The crash occurred just before 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and Baseline Road, close to a Valley Metro light rail station.
Police arrived to find two cars at the intersection, one of which was fully engulfed in flames. The Phoenix Fire Department firefighters responded to the scene and helped to put out the fire.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the deceased parties were not immediately provided. A third individual was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. No arrests were reported.
Authorities said train service along the B Line was impacted for approximately 10 hours as officers investigated the incident and due to damage to the light rail platform. The service has since resumed.
The incident remains under investigation.
