Yuma, AZ – A motorcycle rider had to be airlifted to a hospital after a serious crash that occurred in Yuma on Tuesday morning.
The two-vehicle incident, according to the Yuma Police Department, transpired shortly before 6:57 a.m. February 10, in the 3500 block of South Avenue E.
Initial reports from the investigators indicate that a 21-year-old man was riding a Honda motorcycle westbound on Avenue 3E when he crashed into the rear of a Toyota Scion. The Scion was reportedly stopped in traffic when it was hit from the back by the motorcycle.
The YPD officers, along with fire and medical crews, arrived shortly after and found the injured motorcycle rider.
The motorcyclist had serious injuries and was transported to Onvida Health. He was later flown to a hospital in Phoenix for further treatment.
The driver of the the Scion, only identified as a 25-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.
Authorities believe that speed may have played a role in the accident, though the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
