Costa Mesa, CA – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 405 in Costa Mesa early Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred on the northbound Interstate 405 just south of Harbor Boulevard at approximately 1:17 p.m.
Preliminary reports indicate the crash initially involved a motorcycle and an unknown vehicle. Dispatch logs later confirmed that a total of three vehicles were involved in the collision. During the incident, the motorcyclist was reportedly thrown from the motorcycle and was found lying in the number four lane of the freeway. A black sedan was also reported blocking the middle lanes of traffic.
Authorities said the rider sustained major injuries in the crash. The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been released. Information regarding additional injuries or possible arrests was not immediately available.
Units from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene along with the Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue to provide emergency medical assistance and secure the crash site.
The crash blocked the FasTrak lanes and several main travel lanes of northbound Interstate 405 for a period of time, causing traffic disruptions in the area before authorities were able to reopen all lanes later in the afternoon.
The Costa Mesa crash remains under investigation by authorities.
