Columbia County, OR – One person was killed and two other people were injured following a three-vehicle crash on Highway 30 in Columbia County Thursday evening, according to the Oregon State Police.

The collision occurred near milepost 64 at approximately 5:39 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

The rider, identified as 32-year-old Nick Anthony Verne of Kalama, Washington, was traveling eastbound on an Indian Chieftain motorcycle and was negotiating a sweeping right-hand curve when he crossed over the centerline into the westbound lane. The motorcycle then sideswiped a westbound Toyota 4Runner driven by 32-year-old Elliette Michelle Vasquez of Astoria before crashing head-on into a westbound Toyota RAV4 operated by 73-year-old Kenneth Edward Uphoff of Ocean Park, Washington

Verne was declared deceased at the scene. Vasquez and her passenger, 60-year-old Michael Evaristo Vasquez of Astoria, sustained reported minor injuries and were transported to an area medical center for treatment. Uphoff was reportedly uninjured in the crash. No arrests have been reported in connection with the incident.

The cause of the Columbia County crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet indicated whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed to the collision.

Highway 30 was impacted for approximately four hours as investigators worked at the scene and crews cleared the wreckage.

Oregon State Police were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Rainier Police Department, Columbia River Fire and Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The incident remains under active investigation.
