Gilbert, AZ – The Arizona Department of Public Safety has identified a passenger who died in a traffic collision in Gilbert Friday night as Caleb O'Neal Scott, 20, of Phoenix.
According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the wreck happened at around 10:30 p.m. January 3 on Loop 202 near Gilbert Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed a white Infiniti passenger car was in the westbound lanes of Loop 202 near Gilbert Road when the driver, a 19-year-old man from Surprise, lost control and hit a barrier wall.
Two passengers then got out of the car and were standing in the roadway when a silver Ford SUV struck them.
One of those passengers, later identified as Scott, died at the scene while the second passenger was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believed the driver of the Infiniti, who suffered minor injuries, was impaired at the time of the crash and said charges are pending. The SUV driver is not facing charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
