Buckeye, AZ – One person was killed, and four others were injured following a wrong-way collision on Interstate 10 west of Buckeye Saturday evening, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The fatal crash occurred at about 6:50 p.m. on Interstate 10 near 339th Avenue.
Investigators said a driver was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 when the vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle.
The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Four occupants inside the other vehicle were transported to hospitals for treatment, including two people who sustained serious injuries. The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
According to DPS, the collision occurred after the driver entered the westbound lanes while traveling in the wrong direction.
Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the collision was reported and assisted the injured victims before reopening the roadway.
The incident remains under investigation.
