Hesperia, CA – A 9-year-old girl was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at an Hesperia intersection on Monday morning.

The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified the child as Mia-Tafi B. Fetu, a Hesperia resident.

The crash was reported shortly after 7 a.m. at Escondido Avenue and Palm Street and involved a white 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE and a red 2016 Honda Civic.

Preliminary information indicates the Honda Civic was turning from Palm Street onto Escondido Avenue. The intersection has stop signs controlling traffic on Palm Street. The Mercedes-Benz was traveling southbound on Escondido Avenue at an undetermined speed, and the two vehicles collided.

Two female juveniles, who were the only occupants of the Honda, and a woman from the Mercedes-Benz were transported to a hospital. Fetu later died from her injuries, deputies said.

Mission Crest Elementary School also confirmed in a message to families that one of its students had died in the crash.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
