Phoenix, AZ – Authorities have identified the 22-year-old man who was killed in a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in north Phoenix early Sunday morning, according to the Phoenix PD.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 12th Street and Bell Road.
Police identified the deceased driver as Milson Marley Tessay. Preliminary investigation findings indicate that an 18-year-old man driving an SUV was traveling westbound on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when the SUV collided with Tessay’s sedan.
Tessay suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The teenage SUV driver sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not publicly released the identity of the teen driver.
Investigators said speed and impairment appear to have contributed to the collision, with impairment reportedly associated with the 18-year-old driver. Authorities said charges against the teen driver could be filed after the investigation is completed.
Phoenix police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene to assist victims and investigate the crash.
The collision caused traffic disruptions around the intersection while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the wreckage.
The fatal Phoenix crash remains under investigation by police.
