Phoenix, AZ – A 22-year-old man was killed in a traffic collision near 12th Street in Phoenix early Sunday morning.
The Phoenix Police Department received reports regarding the wreck at around 1:22 a.m. on May 17, 2026, near 12th Street and Bell Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV was traveling westbound on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the sedan traveling southbound on 12th Street.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage.
The 22-year-old driver of the sedan was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. An 18-year-old SUV driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Initial information suggests speed and impairment were contributing factors. Authorities also said impairment was associated with the 18‑year‑old driver, who remains hospitalized.
Officials said charges will be determined once the investigation is complete.
The collision remains under investigation.
