One of the vehicles, a GMC Yukon, crossed over from the eastbound lanes into the opposite, coming directly into the path of a Subaru Forester
Phelan, CA – One of the two drivers who died in a head-on traffic collision in Phelan Sunday night has been identified as Tommy Solis, 27, of Phelan.
Solis, a father of two, died at the scene of a crash that happened at about 8:15 pm, on April 14, 2024, on Phelan Road, just east of Tumbleweed Road.
Authorities say Solis was driving a blue 2015 Subaru Forester westbound on Phelan Road when an eastbound 2018 GMC Yukon, operated by a 38-year-old woman, veered to the left, crossed the left turn lane into the westbound lane, and collided head-on with the Subaru.
Solis was declared dead at the scene. The 38-year-old woman was extricated and airlifted to the hospital where she died a short time later. Her passenger was seriously injured and was hospitalized.

Phelan, CA – Two drivers were killed and a young passenger was critically injured in a Sunday night head-on crash in Phelan, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly two-vehicle collision at about 8:15 pm, on April 14, 2024, on Phelan Road just east of Tumbleweed Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 38-year-old Oak Hills woman was driving a 2018 GMC Yukon eastbound on Phelan Road. At the same time, a 27-year-old Pheland man was driving a blue 2015 Subaru Forester westbound.
For some reason, the GMC Yukon veered to the left, crossed the left turn lane into the westbound lane, and collided head-on with the Subaru, CHP officials said.
According to the San Bernardino County Fire, the driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.
The GMC driver was trapped behind the wheel and had to be extricated by the firefighters. A helicopter was requested to land in the roadway and the woman was flown to the hospital with major injuries. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A young girl between 3-5 years of age sustained critical injuries in the accident. The girl was a passenger in the SUV.
No additional details regarding the crash were provided.
