Linn County, OR – The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is working to determine the cause of a head-on collision that left one person with serious injuries and another arrested for suspected DUI on Sunday morning.
The incident was reported at around 9:15 a.m. on May 17, on Stayton Scio Road near Stayton.
Preliminary reports indicate that Christian Ramon-Carbajal, 31, of Woodburn, was driving a Hummer H3 southbound on Stayton Scio Road when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and struck the curb.
The Hummer then drifted into the opposite lanes and collided head-on with an oncoming black Chrysler 300 driven by Daniel Harnden, 77, of Stayton.
Multiple agencies, including the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Stayton Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Stayton Fire District, Linn County Road Department and Sublimity Fire District, responded to the scene and rendered aid to the involved individuals.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found emergency crews extricating Harnden from his vehicle. He was then transported to a hospital with serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
During their initial investigation, deputies determined that Ramon-Carbajal showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene. He was taken to Santiam Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Ramon-Carbajal wal later booked into Linn County Jail on multiple charges including DUI, assault II, and reckless driving. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
