Hawthorne, CA – One person was killed, and three others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision at an intersection in Hawthorne Sunday morning, according to police.
The deadly incident happened at about 11:45 a.m. at Imperial Highway and Inglewood Avenue.
Preliminary investigation findings indicate that four vehicles were involved in the collision. Responding officers arrived to find multiple damaged vehicles and several injured parties at the scene.
Authorities said Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel extricated two people trapped inside one of the vehicles. Four people were transported to area hospitals for treatment. One of the patients later died at the hospital. Two other individuals were listed in extremely critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
Hawthorne police officers and Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the scene to assist victims, investigate the collision, and clear the roadway.
The crash caused traffic disruptions in the area around Imperial Highway and Inglewood Avenue while emergency crews conducted the on-scene response and investigation.
The exact cause of the multi-vehicle crash remains under investigation by the Hawthorne Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.
