Deschutes County, OR – One person was killed, and two others were seriously injured following a head-on collision on Highway 126 near Redmond Sunday afternoon, according to the Oregon State Police.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 1:11 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, on Highway 126 near milepost 107 in Deschutes County.
Preliminary investigation findings indicate that a green Chevrolet Silverado driven by 63-year-old Lee Glenn Bernard of Lebanon was traveling eastbound on Highway 126 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the westbound lane. Authorities said a westbound blue Subaru Outback driven by 77-year-old Scott Macleod Nicol of Redmond attempted to avoid the collision, but the two vehicles crashed head-on.
Bernard suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Chevrolet, identified as 66-year-old Sandra M. Kronour of Lebanon, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Nicol also suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Oregon State Police troopers, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and traffic control efforts.
The collision caused significant traffic disruptions along Highway 126 for approximately three hours while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the roadway.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Oregon State Police.
