The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of West Street and Shelton Street, according to the Police Department.

Santa Ana, CA — A 50-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a garbage while crossing a residential street in Santa Ana, authorities said. 

The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of West Bishop Street and Shelton Street, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. 

Investigators said the woman was crossing West Bishop Street when she was hit by a southbound garbage truck and died at the scene. 

The incident happened near Pio Pico Elementary School, where families and children were present in the area during the collision. 

The Santa Ana Unified School District activated its crisis team to support school staff and any witnesses affected by the incident. 

An investigation is ongoing.
