Whatcom County, WA – Authorities are investigating a crash that left a Ferndale man dead on Sunday morning in Whatcom County.
According to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place at about 8:53 a.m. June 21, in the 900 block of West Laurel Road.
Investigations revealed that a sedan and a pickup truck were involved in the collision. The manner in which the vehicles collided was not immediately determined.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded to the scene and attended to four people injured in the accident.
One of the patients was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and was later pronounced deceased. The victim was identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Jeffrey Hugh Chalfant, 53, of Ferndale.
Another patient was transported by ground ambulance to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham with unspecified injuries. The other two injured parties were treated and released at the scene.
No additional details on the accident were immediately available. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
