Oregon Pedestrian Crash Statistics
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, 92 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes statewide in 2023, marking one of the highest pedestrian fatality totals in recent years. Pedestrian deaths account for a growing share of overall traffic fatalities, particularly on high-speed roadways and interstates not designed for foot traffic.
Pedestrian crashes on interstates are especially dangerous due to high speeds and limited visibility. Pedestrians are urged to avoid walking or crossing controlled-access highways whenever possible. Drivers should remain alert, especially during morning hours, and slow down when visibility is reduced.
