San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Yucaipa Boulevard and 5th Street around 9:44 a.m. on January 19, according to officials.

Yucaipa, CA – A 74-year-old woman was killed Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle while walking in a marked crosswalk in Yucaipa, authorities said.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Yucaipa Boulevard and 5th Street around 9:44 a.m. on January 19, according to officials.
Investigators said the woman was crossing the street within a marked crosswalk when a Hyundai Tucson SUV made a right turn onto Yucaipa Boulevard and struck her. She was found at the scene with critical injuries and was pronounced dead despite emergency response efforts.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Detectives said drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision.
The victim's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) collision rankings for Yucaipa, in 2023, there were 127 fatal and injury traffic collision victims reported in the city, placing Yucaipa 84th out of 103 similar-sized agencies statewide based on collision severity. Alcohol-involved crashes accounted for 23 of those victims, with several involving young drivers under age 34. Motorcycle and bicycle crashes each contributed notable injury counts, while hit-and-run incidents numbered four. DUI enforcement resulted in 33 arrests, reflecting ongoing efforts to curb impaired driving.
