Bakersfield, CA. – A 14-year-old girl riding a scooter died after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday, October 4, in Bakersfield.

The collision occurred on Airport Drive at El Tejon Avenue at around 4:21 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The girl was riding an electric scooter in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 2007 Kia Rio traveling northbound on Airport Drive.

The teen, Elizabeth Beatrice Griffith, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, a 34-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police.

Police do not suspect impairment was a factor.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
