Santa Clarita, CA – A husband and wife were killed, and their adult daughter was seriously injured following a devastating multi-vehicle crash at an intersection in Saugus late Friday night, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday. Deputies were initially called to the scene around 11:15 p.m.
Authorities reported that at least four vehicles carrying seven people were involved in the crash. Investigators said one vehicle struck the couple’s car head-on while traveling at a high rate of speed.
One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim was transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries. Family friends identified the victims as Genry Ortiz and Patty Ortiz, a married Santa Clarita couple. Their adult daughter, Erin, who was also in the vehicle, survived but suffered severe, life-altering injuries and was transported for medical care.
According to deputies, the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the couple’s car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. No information regarding the ages of the victims or the suspect was immediately available.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency responders worked the scene for several hours following the crash, providing medical assistance and conducting the investigation.
The collision caused significant disruption in the area, and the scene remained active as crews continued clearing the roadway into Saturday morning.
