Santa Clara, CA – Two people who were killed in a deadly wrong-way traffic collision at an intersection in Santa Clara on Wednesday last week have been identified.
The Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner identified the deceased parties as Stephen Hinkson, a 58-year-old San Carlos resident, and 39-year-old Keith Demarest.
The deadly collision happened around 11:58 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the intersection of Montague Expressway and Mission College Boulevard in Santa Clara, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.
Police said a GMC SUV and a silver Honda pickup were involved in the collision. The GMC caught fire after the collision and became fully engulfed in flames. The Santa Clara Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.
Investigators said the GMC was traveling the wrong way on Montague and was going faster than the posted speed limit when it struck the northbound Honda.
Both drivers, later identified as Stephen Hinkson and Keith Demarest, were killed in the crash.
No additional details were provided.
The crash is under investigation.
