The collision happened around 1:40 a.m., when a man driving a 2006 Toyota pickup westbound on West San Carlos Street hit a man crossing the roadway, police said.
Investigators reported that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the impact.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives.
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office will release the pedestrian's identity once it is confirmed and the next of kin notified.
This incident marks San Jose's 34th traffic death of 2025, compared to 44 at the same time last year.
SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit is handling the investigation.
