San Jose, CA – At least one person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 87 in San Jose on Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred on northbound SR-87 just north of Curtner Avenue at approximately 2:51 p.m.
According to the CHP, four vehicles were involved in the collision.
At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Additional reports indicated that at least one individual may have suffered a medical emergency, possibly a seizure, during the incident. The total number of injured parties has not been specified, and no arrests have been reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. However, officials noted that a driver may have attempted to travel the wrong way on a nearby on-ramp to avoid traffic, which could have contributed to the incident.
Emergency responders, including the San Jose Fire Department, arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to assist victims and secure the area. Tow crews were requested to remove multiple damaged vehicles, including those held for evidence.
The crash caused significant traffic disruption, prompting a SigAlert and the closure of two to three lanes, as well as the Curtner Avenue on-ramp to northbound SR-87 for an extended period. All lanes were eventually reopened later in the evening.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
