San Diego, CA – A teenager was seriously injured after being struck by an SUV while riding a bicycle in the Encanto neighborhood of San Diego on Tuesday evening, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The collision occurred in the area of 6800 Wunderlin Avenue at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
Investigators said a 14-year-old boy was riding a dirt bike westbound on Wunderlin Avenue. At the same time, a 45-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling northbound on 68th Street and initiated an eastbound turn onto Wunderlin Avenue, and the bicyclist struck the right front corner of the SUV.
The 14-year-old bicyclist suffered a fractured left ankle, brain bleeds, and other significant injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban was not injured in the incident.
Authorities stated that driving under the influence is not suspected to be a factor in the San Diego crash.
Officers from the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to the scene to manage the incident and conduct an initial assessment.
The intersection of 68th Street and Wunderlin Avenue was temporarily closed as emergency crews worked the scene.
