Royal City, WA – Authorities are investigating to find out what caused a two-vehicle collision that claimed the lives of four people in rural Royal City on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the wreck occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. July 28, on Dodson Road South and Frenchman Hills Road West.
Investigations revealed that a car was attempting to cross the intersection when it was struck on the side by a semi-truck. The exact circumstances under which the two collided were not immediately established.
Four occupants of the car were all declared deceased at the scene.
One other party riding in the car was flown to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland and was listed in critical condition.
The occupants of the car were reportedly from Tacoma but their names were not released as the notifications of the next-of-kin are pending.
Two adults and two children who occupied the semi-truck were taken to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake with non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection was shut down for several hours as authorities investigated the incident.
Impairment or speed were not suspected in the accident but authorities believe that the car driver’s failure to yield to the right of way played a role.
An investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
