Playa del Rey, CA – The victims who were killed in a hit-and-run crash on Vista Del Mar Avenue in Playa del Rey on Sunday morning have been identified, according to authorities.

Authorities identified the deceased as 1-year-old Roger Sandoval Farias and 25-year-old Oswaldo Sandoval Amaya.

The fatal collision occurred in the 6800 block of Vista Del Mar Avenue just south of Culver Boulevard at approximately 4:34 a.m. on May 3, 2026, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Preliminary reports indicate a blue BMW 5-series traveling northbound on Vista Del Mar Avenue was struck by a southbound Jeep Cherokee that crossed into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on collision.

Both Roger Sandoval Farias and his uncle Osvaldo Amaya sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Two additional victims, including a woman believed to be about 30 years old and another adult occupant, were transported to a hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene on foot but was later taken into custody.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, provided aid to the injured, and secured the area.

The collision caused disruptions along Vista Del Mar Avenue as authorities conducted their investigation.

The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division continues to investigate the incident, and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers.
