Van Nuys, CA – A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead in Van Nuys Monday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities identified the suspect as 40-year-old Jose Maranon of North Hollywood. The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators reported that a white Mercedes traveling southbound on Van Nuys Boulevard approached the intersection at an unsafe speed and struck a pedestrian who was crossing in a marked crosswalk. The impact reportedly threw the victim onto the roadway.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. The driver fled the scene but was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident.
Authorities determined that the suspect was allegedly driving at an unsafe speed and under the influence at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and conducted life-saving measures before pronouncing the victim deceased.
The crash caused disruptions in the area as officers investigated the incident.
