Placerville, CA – A man from El Dorado was hospitalized after being involved in a crash that left two people dead on Highway 49 in Placerville Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident happened north of Dolomite Drive at around 5:07 p.m. February 16.
Preliminary reports indicate that a Chevrolet S10 and a Ford Edge collided head-on on Highway 49. One of the vehicles burst into flames following the collision.
CHP said the two people riding in the Chevrolet were declared deceased at the site of the accident. Their names were not immediately released pending identification and notification of the next-of-kin.
The operator of the Ford, now identified as Corry Webb, 34, of El Dorado, sustained major injuries and was taken to the Marshall Medical Center for treatment.
Both sides of SR 49 were shut down for nearly two hours while CHP and emergency crews worked at scene. The roadway had reopened as of 8 p.m.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
