Investigators believe 33-year-old Xavier Munoz Rojel was riding the motorcycle when he collided with a van that was making a left turn in front of him. Authorities indicated that Rojel may have been speeding at the time of the crash.

Police said the van driver showed no signs of impairment. Toxicology results are pending to determine whether Rojel was impaired at the time of the collision.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and secured the intersection while officers conducted their on-scene investigation.

The crash caused disruptions at 16th Street and Baseline Road as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. Prosecutors will determine whether to file charges following the outcome of the investigation.
