Preliminary reports indicate that a child under the age of 10 was driving a white Toyota Camry southbound on 35th Avenue when the vehicle clipped a second vehicle heading north.

Pedestrian Critically Injured in Oakland Crash with Child Driver near 35th and Mangels Avenues

Oakland, CA – A woman was critically injured when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a child in the Barlett neighborhood of East Oakland on Thursday morning.

According to the Oakland Police Department, the collision was reported at around 9:30 a.m. August 6, near 35th and Mangels avenues.

Preliminary reports indicate that a child under the age of 10 was driving a white Toyota Camry southbound on 35th Avenue when the vehicle clipped a second vehicle heading north.

The first vehicle lost control and hit a woman walking her dog in a crosswalk at the intersection of Mangels Avenue. It then left the roadway, crashed through a fence, and ended up in the front yard of a home.

The woman struck by the vehicle was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries. Her dog was unharmed in the incident.

The child who was driving the first car also had a minor under the age of 10 as a passenger. They were both transported to a hospital and were said to be in stable condition.

Police responded to the scene and contacted the parents of the involved children. The parents were cooperative with law enforcement.
