Investigators reported that Noah Merchant, 26, was driving a Jeep in the area when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with a Toyota RAV4 traveling westbound on Van Mall Drive.

Vancouver, WA – Authorities are investigating a deadly pedestrian collision that claimed the life of one person and left another critically injured on Monday night in Vancouver.
According to the Vancouver Police Department, the incident took place on Northeast Andresen Road and Van Mall Drive at around 9:45 p.m. October 5.
Investigators reported that Noah Merchant, 26, was driving a Jeep in the area when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and collided with a Toyota RAV4 traveling westbound on Van Mall Drive.
The impact caused the Jeep to roll over and it struck two pedestrians on the south crosswalk. The pedestrians were attempting to cross the intersection on a light when the incident occurred.
One of the pedestrians was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was only identified as a 34-year-old woman
The second pedestrian, a 43-year-old man, was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries.
It’s unclear whether anyone else was injured in the incident.
Investigations revealed that impairment was suspected to have factored in the crash. Merchant was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, vehicular homicide, and vehicular assault. He was booked into Clark County Jail.
The Vancouver Police Department is investigating the collision.
