Newark, CA – A Hayward woman was hit and killed by a vehicle in Newark on Monday night, the Newark Police Department reported.
The incident took place in the area of Cedar Boulevard and Joaquin Murieta Avenue at around 8:11 p.m. March 16.
According to the report, a vehicle struck a woman and her dog near the intersection. The circumstances under which the collision occurred remained undetermined.
Newark police officers and personnel from the Alameda County Fire Department arrived at the scene a few minutes later and they located both the victim and her dog down in the roadway.
Medics performed life-saving efforts at the scene but both were confirmed deceased shortly after.
The woman was identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office as Rosalia Antonia Mariscal, 34, of Hayward.
The driver of the car stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. At this time, it’s still unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
