Marion County, OR – A fatal two-vehicle collision early Saturday morning on Highway 99E in Salem claimed the life of a 22-year-old motorcyclist, according to the Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred on Highway 99E at the intersection with Quinaby Road NE at approximately 2:30 a.m. on December 13, 2025.
Preliminary investigation by the Oregon State Police indicates an eastbound Dodge Charger, driven by 30-year-old Juan Santiago Sandoval of Woodburn, was stopped on Quinaby Road NE. The Dodge then turned onto northbound Highway 99E, and as it entered the highway, it drove into the path of a southbound Yamaha XJ650 motorcycle, resulting in a side impact collision.
The motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Xander Ashton Colter of Kiezer, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sandoval and his passenger, 27-year-old Ricardo Alvarez Acosta of Woodburn, were reportedly uninjured. Sandoval was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants following the crash.
Initial findings suggest impairment was a primary contributor to the crash, according to the Oregon State Police.
First responders from the Oregon State Police were assisted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Salem Fire Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation in managing the scene and investigation.
Traffic on Highway 99E was impacted for approximately five hours while emergency personnel conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the roadway.
