Modesto, CA – Edward Heiss Dies After Pedestrian Crash on Prescott Road

Modesto, CA – A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Modesto has died from his injuries, according to the Modesto Police Department.

Police identified the victim as 73-year-old Edward Heiss.

The crash occurred around 1:12 p.m. on November 3, 2026, at Prescott Road and Mt. Vernon Drive.

Investigators said Heiss was crossing Prescott Road in the south crosswalk with an illuminated walk signal when he was struck by a vehicle turning left from Mt. Vernon Drive. He was taken to a local hospital after the collision, where he was later pronounced dead.

The 46-year-old driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The collision marked Modesto’s 15th traffic fatality of 2026, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
