The fatal collision happened around 12:05 a.m. on October 19 on Sierra Highway south of Avenue E.

Palmdale, CA – The person who was killed early Sunday morning in a head-on collision in Palmdale has been identified as Melyssa Cardaropoli, 47, of Rosamond, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.
The fatal collision happened around 12:05 a.m. on October 19 on Sierra Highway south of Avenue E.
CHP said Marcos Gonzalez, 29, of Palmdale, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet southbound on the highway when he drifted into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on into a 2018 Hyundai.
The Hyundai driver, Cardaropoli, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gonzalez was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. He was later taken into custody and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The collision closed the highway for about three hours.
The CHP is investigating the accident.
