Orange County, CA – Melvin Joseph Weibel, 88, of , was killed in a suspected DUI crash at an intersection in Dana Point Friday evening.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash at around 6:15 p.m. January 31, at Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive.

A preliminary investigation revealed Serene Francie Rosenberg, 48, of Dana Point, was driving a Land Rover westbound on Stonehill Drive when he turned left against a red arrow signal and collided head-on with an eastbound Ford Transit on Stonehill Drive.

The driver of the Transit van was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A passenger of the Transit van, Weibel, 88, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Rosenberg was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with three prior convictions and booked into the Orange County Jail.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the collision.
